Just in case

Abigail's pregnancy has not been going well so we took some photos and a plaster cast just in case the hospital decided to keep her in until the birth. The plaster cast was fun but it made so much mess it took me an hour to clean the bathroom.

Birthdays

Yesterday was my birthday and now I'm really, really, old as Emilie told me. 57 to be exact - on the way to 60 now . There was a hot air balloon over our house as we left to go for a meal in the evening with Amelia and Martin to Brasserie Mansfeld, a very old converted house in the Grund, and had a wonderful meal with a bottle of Saint Joseph 2005. We will definitely have to go there again.

Trier by train

It was a bank holiday in Luxembourg today so Amelia suggested that we took Emilie out for the day. A visit to Trier seemed like a good idea but the journey by car is not. There is a long steep hill down into the city and you cant overtake so it can take a very long time to do a short journey. So we decided to go by train at the sound of the word train Malcolm's ears pricked up and he said he would come to.We had lunch at the fish and chip restaurant followed by a visit to the large toy shop. It was a very hot day even though it was overcast and we all were soon exhausted but ice cream and coffee soon perked us up.

Abigail's Home

Abigail came home from hospital today. She has to rest and take some medication to stop the contractions. Unfortunately, it makes her feel quite ill. Still she is pleased to be home and the children are happy. So we have been busy looking after everyone. Malcolm has been cropping the vegetables, the peas have finished and he is on to the courgettes. Frankie wanted to have some pirate tattoos and was very proud to show them to everyone.

Pirate's Ahoy

We told the children that we would take them to visit mummy then go to the grund to ride the little trains. Unfortunately the roads were closed as it was roller blade in the city day and we couldn't park the car any where near the grund. It was extremely hot and we were not sure about walking very far in the heat when we met Amelia and Martin at the pub so guess what! we all sat down and had a cold drink and decided to go to the pirate ship instead. Good old grandad climbed up the rigging but what you cant see is that he couldn't get down so he was stuck for quite a while .We hadn't got any spare clothes but the children didn't mind Frankie thought it best to hold his tee shirt up just in case it got wet.

Art Week

The children spent the day with Romains parents which gave us a break, the weather was lovely so we went to the city to finnish our walk through the grund. It was art week so the place was full of artists displaying their goods. There was also a barrel organ which looked fun. We had lunch at the art gallery again then shopping and back to Abigail's.

Hospital for Abigail

Poor Abigail hasn't been feeling at all well during this pregnancy its just been one thing after another. she now has gestational diabetes and has to take insulin. However she also started to have contractions and was given medication to stop them but the baby was determined she was on her way, weeks to early. Eventually Abigail was admitted to hospital and a drip has done the job of stopping everything so far. The children have been fine although Malcolm and I have lost the plot somewhere along the way we hope to regain some normality soon.

The sun has got his hat on

The sun has come out again and its been around 36c wonderful. We took Emilie to see Shrek 3 and I must say we really enjoyed it, she came back to our apartment to sleep after for an extra treat. Malcolm and I went to the opticians our first visit in Luxembourg Malcolm was not surprised to hear he has some retinal damage due to the diabetes but I was very put out to be told that I have cataracts. I knew my eye sight was deteriorating but just thought new glasses would do the job, anyway we both have to got back in six months to have another check up. I have now got new glasses at vast expense the frames were cheaper here than in the U.K. but the lenses were very expensive although I will get some money back from the Cass de Malade.
